^^ thanks for posting that, man I miss her so much these days...I always loved the contrast between her dorky/clumsy off stage character and her perfection and cool aura on stage. I agree that Sayu's return has made me crave Riho's return even though she's been gone a lot less longer...

For some reason or another, the Japanese fandom has seemingly only just found out about this Takigawa Arisa interview on the release of her first album way back in November of last year.

 

How would you explain the entry of the sun in your song 'Sugar," which has been cited as a continuation of "Natsu no Hana"?

 

Takigawa Arisa: This song is about a loner who goes to the sea which is full of memories for her. But I wrote it in such a way to depict a positive woman who still insists on saying "Don't worry, I'm fine." Thus in this song, the symbolism of the sun is about a person who doesn't feel small even against it. So I wrote this song because of my yearning for that woman.

 

What about the sun in "Again"?

 

TA: It has the same meaning as the one in the song "BOY’S CHRONICLE." These children I've been watching since I was in my teens have grown up with great talent, but because of that they continue getting hurt. I wrote the song with the feeling that this is profoundly regretful. I sing this song in dedication to this sun-like existence whom I admire.

 

And this person is?

 

TA: This song is about former Morning Musume member Sayashi-san. A lot of people thought of her as the sun but I think that probably she herself had an altogether different image of it. From my perspective, it seemed that she worked desperately in order to come close to that image. For me though, just her very existence was the sun. However, I felt like running away whenever I thought that maybe those of us who felt this way was just giving her more burden. To think that she was taking in all that pressure since being entrusted the center position at such a young age.
