It was announced on the Yoyogi 2010 concert (on 11 July 2010) that the senbatsu for AKB48’s 19th single will be chosen in a Janken tournament to be held at Nippon Budokan on September 21. Match-ups were chosen randomly on stage at that concert, with each girl from a selected list (AKB48 members + 4 RS) picking a number from a box. This is the chart for the tournament:

There are five rounds. Some girls start on the second one. Each girl that manages to survive to reach to the third round becomes a senbatsu member. The winner of the tournament becomes the center girl (and the spokesperson also?) for the new single released on December (not the one released on October). Jan-ken-pon, or Janken is this game.

In the guidebook, each of the girls is given a rating, 1-5 stars, in 5 fortune telling techniques, like palm reading. The only predictions in the guidebook are from Bad Boys, Goto-P, Yama-chan, etc. and they only give their prediction on who will be the top 3.

Each of the 5 fortune tellers does give their prediction of who will be the winner. They are Sato Sumire, Sato Natsuki, Miyazawa Sae, Shinoda Mariko, and Shinoda Mariko.

I was wondering if the girls who make it to the 2nd round but lose are in Undergirls?

^ Yeah, the girls who make it to the second round are in undergirls. The other situation is that I think all the girls with byes are automatically in undergirls by default instead of being in theatregirls by default.

I could be wrong but the bracket they had at Yoyogi had a clearer explanation iirc.

Good to hear that. At least Nito will be in Undergirls but I hope she wins and be in the center. Hope results are posted somewhere as the tournament is going on.
