wat happin if ur hd stuff makin alot of grind nosie

Um, time to replace it o___O?

Actually, if the HD is unnaturally noisy, part of it could be from the fact that you're drive is so fragmented that it has to jump all over the place for data. Try defragging, though I would suggest to back the data up before you do so. Don't be the next member of the Coping with Data Loss Group :\

Check that it isn't too hot also.

Ugh, Been there, don't want to do that again :\. Don't you wish you could stick your drive in the fridge and just run the wires? :]

... that grinding noise... scares me. Can you record it, I'm curious to see what it sounds like. I really, REALLY, REALLY suggest you back your data off...

When i upgraded my system HD to a 10k rpm it seemed my box
got a bit too hot. It sometimes even could turn itself off cause of overheat.
I bought one of theese and havnt had any problems since.

http://mycom.se/prod...oler_35705.html

Unfortunately the fans on it sound a bit higher than my chassi fans.
But as i said no problems with the heat now. Plus the display looks kinda cool.

I have a total of 5 HDs in my main machine

My 40 GB system HD and four 200 GB SATA for storage.
(manufacturer numbers so the actual space is ofcourse lower)

well if worried about heat just have a chassi fan go over the drives. the ones that you get specifically for the HD works good but they are using smaller fans thus higher rpm so louder sound. I took one of my chassi fan and just have it blowing over 2 of my lower drives and they are pretty cool compared to the aircooled ones. gonna be looking into more case fans since i'm not to worried about sound as that machine is in the basement hehehe

,,

But this was a much more simple solution <_< It was really only the fast drive
that got hot.

To stay on topic. I have about 40GB free at the moment. But of themare
2 GB free on the two HDs i use for H!P stuff (number three is for anime
and the last for TV series)

My second machine (that i currently dont use much now) Has
a split 80 GB HD (20 for system 60 programs and stuff)
plus two 120 GB IDE HDs for data. I got about 70 GB free here.
(50 of them on the data HDs)

My laptop has a 80 GB HD with 70+ GB free.

Total 1240 GB 180 GB free.

I know what you mean, I was tempted to get HDD cooler packs from some company (I forget the name, ~$50 each), and then that would strap on perfectly into the case I'm using (they're using that case in their demo images), but would require some sort of megapump to pump liquid cooling to the 4x400 raided drives, and then out to passive heat dissipation device...

P.S. think it's worth starting a computer building/help thread?

hard drive kits are great for expanding your drive space with out having to open up your case or worry about if you computer has more than the 4 ide connections.
you just need to get a usb hub if you getting more than one.

I personally don't like USB2.0  thou its the most common among the PC world. I personally use firewire since its faster in practice. also i dun need a hub just chain it off one another.

All my ext drives thou have both firewire and USB connections so i don't have to worry about not being able to connect to something.

Just as a caution if you get a pocket drive (one that holds a 2.5 notebook drive) most USB ports either won't supply the power or supply enough power which is one thing i dislike about usb.

Still its a good choice to go along with this solution. usb or not because then you can share (or torment ^_^) your friends with HP goodies.
