Hey Guys, I'm heading to Hawaii for a week, and I'm expecting I'll have a little downtime. I was just wondering if there were Japanese stations or whatever in Hawaii (Because I know that H!P goes there a lot and there is a large Japanese population there). I was just hoping I might be able to see a couple of appearances of the girls, but I wasn't sure what to expect.

Thanks for any help.

Super out of touch with stuff, please excuse my stupidness.

KIKU channel 9 shows a ton of 10-15 year old stuff with occaisional recent stuff like Ryomaden. NGN shows more recent stuff but it's one of them premium pay cable channels. You're better off just putting a ton of stuff on your laptop or youtubing stuff.

Even the Korean channels are kinda outdated.

Sorry to say but the chances of seeing any idols from this millennium on Hawaiian TV are minimal at best.

You might have a chance to hear them on AM 1210 KZOO radio since they seem to play "Love Machine" "Akai Nikkicho" "Kiiroi Osora de BOOM BOOM BOOM" and "Aoi Sports Car no Otoko" almost nightly but sadly the mostly elder population leads to most of the programming dominated by boring talk shows and so J-pop is mostly at night and a lot of old songs get played way too much. I did hear "Mikan" once though.

mixedmedia's right. there's nothing on KIKU that's recent except for taiga dramas. if you're staying at a hotel in Waikiki there's a few channels with Japanese but it's mostly restaurant reviews/sightseeing spots.

if you're wanting to watch H!P, best to youtube or keyhole.

Saw current generation Morning Musume on Hawaiian TV! Unfortunately, it was one of those low budget local cable access shows (Doko Ga TV, OC16) barging in on their FC Tour but at least they were on. Reina won an expensive ukulele after tying Ai and Kamei for 'best English self-intro' and winning the jan-ken-po deciding game. After that they talked about what they liked about Hawaii and what they bought. End credits were the PV for "Onna ga medatte Naze Ikenai" until the show's regular theme music came on and ruined it.

FWIW NGN (Nippon Golden Network) is still pretty good if you can hack the monthly fee. Good variety of subtitled programming including some of my favorite variety shows.

KIKU-TV finally made the jump to HD broadcasts on cable.

乾杯 BABY!
