I am attempting to overburn a disc using Nero... but to no avail. I have the "overburn disc-at-once" activated and have the time increased, but Nero will not allow me to even attempt the overburn... tells me to insert larger capacity disc. The file I am trying to burn is 703 megs.... only 1 meg too big.

Can anyone help me out? Is there a better burning program to use? I tried Burn4Free, but that didn't allow me to try overburn either.

Check this out Nero OverBurn

So as you can see it depends on the writer and type of CD/DVD...

I don't know how to test to see if writer can overburn or not with Nero Express... I've looked for the option to choose drives, and I do not see it.

If I can't overburn, what is a good compression codec to use with little quality loss?

I think more expensive burners from Plextor, has the feature to burn up to 1gig on a single CD-R. With regular burners, I don't think you can burn more than max 704meg. I've found it to be easier to "overburn" CD-RW than CD-R.

I've never tried it, but I don't know if my drive can do it since I haven't. Although since Santa-san has done it successfully, I might give it a shot at some point. When I get some more discs that is, lol. ^^; I'm out right now.

Heh, I just managed to burn 705 meg on a verbatim cd-rw disc... ^_^ The file was 720746kb, which became a total 721088kb on disc with lead in and lead out. And it wasnt even on my fancy Pioneer dvd burner! It was on a friends noname cd-rw burner. The disc worked fine with no read errors or anything. Pretty cool actually, is this a record?
^_^ to amarach.
