I thought she was going to sooner or later.

Even despite getting 2nd place in the janken tournament, she barely got to speak during interviews and talk shows. She's also mentioned on TV that she never once thought of herself as cute (which shows much about her personality). She's been continually trying things out like radio talk shows and showing up fairly frequently with other less popular members in the Anta Dare shows, but hasn't been able to do much (especially after the death of Shukan AKB and Nemousu choosing more research students over people that need more exposure).

Pretty sad to see a solid performer like her go. She was also Watanabe Mayu's only kissing partner, so she'll probably be pretty sad about it. Her best friends in AKB too aren't going to be happy about it either (Nakadzuka, Matsui Sakiko, etc.)

I wonder what she'll do after leaving.

I can't really translate everything, but in short she got very sad and cried a lot. And actually cried while riding the train.

Takashima Yurina 22:31 - Public

Good evening.
I just learned about Nitou-san graduating...

The first theater performance I had was the Reset Kouen, in Nitou-san's position.
In order to learn the dance I watched Nitou-san,
and all of a sudden I've found myself admiring her.
After that, whenever I got asked the question 'Who's the senior you admire the most?' in the handshake events and documentaries, I'd always answer 'Nitou Moeno-san'.
I've only been able to perform alongside Nitou-san a few times, but those times to me were the most important experiences I've had.
I'm terribly in shock and my tears aren't stopping,
but I want to become like Nitou-san, try to surpass her and get noticed by her, and to do this I'll try my best.

If it could be possible, I'd like to talk with Nitou-san (´・_・`)

What's with AKB lately, are they trying to catch up with H!P's decade & a half's worth of members exoduses?

Very sad to hear this. Moeno was one if the early members I got to know and is always who I look for when watching "Namida no Seesaw Game." I wish her all the best.

kantutanTayo男爵,

You cannot compare H!P and AKB other than the fact that they both are Japanese idol groups / families.

AKB started out being far, far smaller in scope than H!P and were an indies group for a long time (even if they had a major label debut).

Thus considering they sold 20-24k or so of more or less each single up to Oogoe Diamond in 2008, the girls had a different attitude to their career than H!P.

In H!P things were "safe", you didn't really have to fear much, once you were in, you were set. But in AKB not so. The group could be disbanded any day, that was the feeling from both management and the girls. It wasn't until after the success of RIVER that they started thinking more ahead of things.

Now, the purpose of being an AKB member is not to just remain an AKB member - it is to expand upon ones skill sets and repertoire, and to branch out and explore, to gain experience and to create a basis for a career after graduation. In a sense being an AKB member is preparing for the future. You go to school not because of school itself, but for getting an education to be used for the future.

There have been many graduations in AKB but there will be many more to come. It is so because of the whole crossroads thing with older members and generation changes, but also because this is the model of the idol group as created by Akimoto in the first place.

Onyanko Club was pretty much the defining point in idol history, where Akimoto introduced concepts such as generations, shuffles, graduations and more. This model is what H!P is based upon.

That there are graduations does not need to be a bad thing. Because if everybody stayed, how would this let other people get a chance? Of course we can then talk about how some of those girls graduating never really got a chance, but that's part of the game too. Not everybody will find success, either as an idol or after being an idol. Sad but true. At any rate however, the steady rate of adding new members means there's always something new and fresh going on. There's always people who have a hunger for rising up, and that puts pressure on the older girls to keep up the pace as well.

The bad part might be that for fickle people, and people who aren't really fans, once the few familiar "names" disappear, so does their interest as well. But this is their fault, not the groups fault. There's a ton of interesting girls, one just needs to be willing to check them out.

I announced during today’s (February 14th) stage my decision to graduate from AKB48.

I am sorry for the sudden announcement.

I started seriously thinking about the graduation when I turned 20, and I have made up my mind by the end of last year.

I joined AKB48 as a 5th generation member, and have experienced many things. However, recently, I was thinking a lot about my standing position, how I should support AKB48, and also, how it would affect me in a positive way…

However, this place is not my goal after all, and I do not intend to keep fighting as a member of AKB.

I want to graduate, and experience even more things! I would like to try my best to improve my own skills!!

Regarding the date for my graduation, since I definitely want to attend the handshake events for ‘Eien Pressure’, and my 5th anniversary since debut will be on April 28th, it will be after I finish those.

It has not yet been decided exactly when (could be May, could be June…), but while I can stay as a member of AKB48, I want to continue learning many things, and grow myself up. I also want to cherish the time with the members, as well as the time with you fans.

Please continue to support me.

Moeno! This is really upsetting, more so than anything else that's been going on in AKB, but I entirely respect and understand her choice to graduate. She's not only a strong, professional performer, but also an intelligent, admirable person. I like that she's taken the time to really think about her place in the group and her place in the world, and I can relate to her feelings of wanting to experience all the great things the world has to offer without being tied down to anything. But I'm still sad about this.

This is upsetting and it makes me sad as Moeno is my oshimen.

It is probably the right decision career wise, from many of the members she did really well as Wendy in Peterpan and she probably felt like she has been stuck in the same position in AKB48.

Wish her the best, but it is still sad.

And once she graduates I will have to decide on a new oshimen. When I first saw her on AKBingo I instantly decided to make her my Oshimen... now I know how all of the Kuumin oshis felt last year.

I am sad...because I really like Moeno, and because I had felt like she was beginning to get a little more exposure...or maybe I imagined that.

Of course, I respect her decision to move forward.

But I'm a little sad.

Hate to bump this thread with more sad news but, it seems that Moeno was burned by a cigarette last night when someone who was walking and smoking passed her according to this story posted an hour ago: http://topics.jp.msn...ticleid=1959469

She also tweeted about it at 7:06pm: https://twitter.com/...078744436977665

(translation attempt) "Suddenly, a sharp/intense pain ran up my arm, I wondered what it was, and it was from the cigarette of someone walking and smoking (she uses the onomatopoeia "ju" which indicates sizzling similar to water on a frying pan or something). It's too frightening. It's the worst. Walking and smoking is no good."

Follow-up tweet to let fans know she is okay came at 7:17pm: https://twitter.com/...081560429756416

(another bad translation attempt) "There's no mark so I'm okay! But whoever sees this, definitely don't do the same thing (smoking and walking) ok?"
