He probably just accepted to be polite since they made the offer.

With his status as an entertainer along with the Japanese views of propriety, it wouldn't surprise me if he was an Abe supporter at least superficially, given how many do like Abe on a personal level.  I think though that if Tsunku was a policy wonk, he probably wouldn't vote for Abe's party and instead lean more towards the Minshintou party just based on what personality you can get from biographical sources, interviews... his fanatical obsession with the beatles.

My dislike of Abe politically aside, I just don't think Tsunku has ever been the type to really care so much about any policy that didn't make his job harder.  Any national pride he has can always just be seen in his songs when a lyric comes to him, and while nationalism and conservatism are the two things that pretty much define Abe's party, national pride doesn't necessarily have to be indicative of any political views.

I wonder if Tsunku even votes for Abe?
I really like Mirin, so I love this collaboration.

I've never heard anything political from Tsunku, except some pride in Japan and Japanese entertainment. So, who knows? But being an Abe supporter is unrelated to being tapped by Abe for political purposes. MomoClo got used this way long before they were old enough to vote (at his Sakura viewing party)... At the same time it is literally an honor to be asked to meet with your head of state, so unless you WANT to make a political point in opposition, you go...

Abe reminded us Love Machine is a political song XD

The English translation for the interview wasn't perfect as some parts doesn't make sense to me ^^;

tbh, the opening almost sounds like a regular idol anime song (with a bit of complexity that makes it a little bit Tsunku-ish), but the ending is much more H!P EDM-like, although not as much EDM as H!P EDM.

^^ well, the whole concept is an alternative world where there are idol MPs.

I have finished translating Tsunku's letter to UUG.
( Oricon News: http://www.oricon.co...full/?ref_cd=tw )

dozo...

アップアップガールズ(仮)の皆さん、本の完成おめでとう。
UPUPGIRLS kakkoKARI, congratulations on the completion of (your) book.

思えば出会ったのは約13年前 。
If I recall (we) met about 13 years ago.

小学生だったみんなもすっかり立派になりましたね。
All of you were elementary school student too, (now) you have become completely praiseworthy, haven't you.

そこら辺に居るアイドルなら、
Around here, given that you are talking about idol,

きっと多分何度もくじけたり、
surely perhaps often being disheartened,

諦めてしまうタイミングもぁっただろうに、
it seems there is a timing to give up unintentionally,

ここまで来る粘り強さ。
to come this far is persistent.

これは一つの才能やね。
This is a talent.

これまでは楽しいより、悔しい、苦しい思いの方が多かったかもしれませんが、
Up to now, thinking of how annoying and difficult things are, is probably more than the feeling of fun, but

それがこの先のバネとなり、大きく羽ばたいてくれることと思います。
actually from now on [バネとなり], I think ( it is time to ) spread your wings wide ( for your fans ).

楽しみにしています。
I am looking forward to it.

つんく

Note: I could not figure out what Tsunku meant by バネとなり. Any ideas?
If there is any other mistakes, please correct me. :respect:

バネ (bane) Spring (the bouncy kind, not the season) or springboard.
but 羽根 (hane) wing or feather. An intentional pun?
But afaict there aren't actually regular/traditional kanji for it (spring), so the use of katakana might have just been that...
What I've learned about Japanese so far, is that you must first pay attention to these 2 things: Rule #1 and Context. After that, just pray they remember their high-school English class.

A couple of things that might be of interest. I finished my translation project about H!P music:

That conversation between Asai & Yuzuki is amazing. Thanks so much! So looking forward to the next pieces.

I can't even remember how many times I've told people that "my oshi" is Tsunku like Yuzuki did :D

"Oh, you like Hello Project? Who's your favorite?" --> "Tsunku!"

After all, Tsunku was also a singer (something very close to an idol) and her  his music is the main strand in the tapestry of Hello Project. :sotsugyou:

Tsunku's blog translation after C-ute's graduation (from Facebook 910 Percent)

Dear °C-ute, Thanks for the wonderful last concert in Saitama Super Arena.
15 years has passed since you passed the audition.
12 years, since you became C-ute.
I feel it's a long time, at the same time It's a sort time.

I'm proud of my life to share your precious youth with you.
I deeply thank fans who have supported C-ute.

Watching your concert, I thought you let me meet (make) a lot of good songs.
What I thought most impressively was as follows.
You have grown up with my first impression in the H!P Kids audition
You stay what I felt at the time fortunately.

You have started new lives just after the concert.
I'm sure you will be able to stay just the way you are in your new lives.

Thank you so much
I respect your great work.
Your final concert was fun!
Take good rests.

Suzuki, I was impressed with your figure, you have done all with your smile.
I hoped to listen to more songs with your voice today too.
You are professional
That's why you made me think that.
I'm looking forward to your future.

Yajima, you sweated so much today too.
I wanna say that but actually you didn't like what you were
Isn't it because you became a woman?
I wonder if it's raining somewhere in stead of your sweat?
I appreciate your great work as the leader of C-ute.
I know It's a hard work
Well done!

Okai, You get the powerful singing voice in spite of your tiny body.
The experience that you have lived with a lot of music will help you someday.
I wonder if you will shine in Variety TV shows from now?
Ah, I don't worried about you.
You are the greatest talker in Hello Project history,

Nakajima; You said you were chicken.
You made us think, You have changed your character rapidly through C-ute life.
But I believe, Originally you were already tough and you were very broad-minded.

Changing yourself again and again means you have the ability to listen to others and use what you learned usefully.
I believe Nakajima will keep on evolving from now on too.

Hagiwara: The youngest member chose the most a courageous decision.
It's a romantic story of C-ute
I don't know how your life will be.
But I think you will enjoy your life most.
You were cool.
I love your false ring too.

You may have the time to lose what you should do.

Enjoy!
Have a happy life!
It's your lives.
I know you can do it!!

If you have troubles, please listen to a lot of your songs
You will find out something from the songs.
But if you can't find anything, please tell me any times.

I'll cheer for you forever like those days.

I really do try to avoid complaining about other people's translations. But there's one line that Tsunku wrote that my mind keeps circling back on as significant and the translation doesn't give any real hint as to what he said.

About Hagiwara, the 910% translation has:
'I love your false ring too.'
from Tsunku's line:
'裏返る声も大好きやで。'

What Tsunku said he loves is Hagiwara's cracking voice. Or the way it leaps from falsetto to modal (?is I guess the word? I'm not a singer...) and back.

I don't want to belabor why this line from Tsunku strikes me so hard, just open it up that it's in there.

Sorry to any 910% people that I'm insulting by doing this :/

Hey Greyface,

You're right, that line is important -- I think it was by far the most quoted thing about it on the 2ch discussions I read. Your word choice of "cracking" is also fitting. If people don't know what that means: think of it as that awkward thing that happens with boys going through puberty when they're saying something and their voices do that funny crack. It's been known to happen to Hagiwara a lot when she's singing live, and Tsunku is saying he appreciates it.

(Going off-topic here...)

Moreover, I don't think you should be afraid of calling a spade a spade. I'm not familiar with the translations of 910% as a whole, but their translation of Tsunku's blog post (posted above) is absolute trash. Just awful, awful stuff. I want to say that it's acceptable for at least getting the basic gist of it, but then you have lines like "I wonder if it's raining somewhere in stead of your sweat?" and "you stay what I felt at the time fortunately", so I can't in good conscience give it credit even for that simply because I would not understand what those line are supposed to mean if I didn't check the original text.

By me saying this, I'm not looking to insult or make enemies with anyone at 910%. I'm simply hoping to express that they did a poor job with this translation. If anything, by me putting this out there, I'm inviting people to call me out for the translation mistakes I make. It's a good thing. How else am I supposed to know I've fucked up? How else does one improve and make something that's better?

I'm just so tired of the H!P fandom being plagued by translations that are so inexcusably horrible. I'll have a look at the latest subtitled video or whatever and I'll spot three mistranslations in the first minute alone. Whatever happened to quality? Where's someone like Mat Swadling when you need him?

"At least it's better than nothing." I wonder about that though. Is bad really better than nothing?

910% is run by a single person. I made the mistake once, where when a fan asked in the comments what a line meant, I explained it and corrected the mistake. The translation made ZERO sense, and I had to let them know it was wrong, and roughly what it should be, as well as the fact that I didn't think the translator spoke English well and that was the reason for the mistranslation. Another fan lost it on me on how rude I was and all of this other stuff, and 910% themselves commented and apologized and explained they're not a native English speaker. I told them it's fine and I understand that, but I was simply correcting the mistake for another fan who was confused.

I've been trying to do translations to practice Japanese, and I know my translations aren't perfect, which is why I don't share mine (though I've been thinking I should, so I can get feedback and learn...). So I understand how hard it is to translate, and how easy it is to make mistakes, and something how daunting it can be when you're not fluent in a language and you're trying to either translate something from it or to it. But I mean, their translations are so bad, they don't make sense in the first place, and like Henkka said - is having something that's totally not understandable actually better than nothing? Because in that case, it's the same thing, isn't it? If you can't make sense of it because the grammar is so, so bad, isn't it the same as nothing? In the end, you still don't know what the heck you've read.

It's not a bad thing to have broken English or to not be fluent and therefore make mistakes (hell, I make mistakes in English and it's my first language), but I think there's a point where if your translations are too poor for English speakers to understand them, you need to pick up an English grammar textbook. 910% told me in their comment that they recognize their English is bad, but they don't have time to learn and study and whatever else. But if you're providing translations to tons and tons of people like they do, you should want to give them the best you can, which would be translations they can understand. If they have too many translations to do that they can't take the time to read a little about grammar, then they should maybe think about adding on some other translators that can assist them and take the load off. The H!P fandom needs more translators, it would be nice to see a new translation team making good translations. Aside from lyrics, I'd love to see stuff like Riho's book translated, or Tsunku's books, H!P radio shows, TV appearances, musicals and dramas, among other stuff. Not much gets translated these days.

Maybe he should just translate it into his native tongue, at least google isn't totally hopeless with European languages.
