Masaki is adorable~

As always, corrections are welcome :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's no good if we're both being silly, so I aim to be level-headed

--To everyone in 9th gen, was there anyone from 10th gen that had an impact?

Sayashi: I think everyone holds the same view, but it was Sato Masaki-chan! She's slender to the point that you wouldn't think she's a 6th-grader. She seems mature but she's very silly (laughs).

Suzuki: I think, "She's indeed a 6th-grader." We're only a year apart, though (laughs).

Sayashi: She couldn't write "hisshi" ["frantic/with all one's might"] in kanji, so she wrote it in katakana on her board, but then during the show, she couldn't read the katakana, either, and was like "Hmm.......?" (laughs). Even at the audition training camp, I heard that when they received the lyrics and Iikubo-chan wrote them [in hiragana] so that she could memorize them, [Masaki-chan] told her, "Write everything in hiragana for Maa-chan, too." (laughs)

Fukumura: She's very frank, and she'll say anything that comes to mind, so even when it's time to be serious, she gets all excited by herself (laughs). I think, "You shouldn't do that!" but it's amusing to watch her (laughs)

--Conversely, what impressions do the 10th gen have of the 9th gen seniors?

Iikubo: Suzuki-san's impressions are interesting. The build-up of the expression is amazing. Like, the sound of being sucked in, for example......

Sayashi: They're worthless, you know. Like, when she puts her hand in her pocket......

Suzuki: I say things like, "Ba--m!" (laughs)

Iikubo: I think she often racks her brain for this sort of thing.

Suzuki: It's pointless, though (laughs).

Ishida: I laugh at useless things more than at funny things, so I can laugh at the things that Suzuki-san does.

Suzuki: Oh, so I'm useless (laughs).

Ishida: Even while she has that interesting side to her, she also seems to be thinking, "I gotta look out for Masaki-chan."

Suzuki: It's because when she's being silly, if I also act silly, we won't be able to do our work properly (laughs). So I aim to be somewhat level-headed.

Sato: Suzuki-san has both a funny side and a strict side.

Kudo: Fukumura-san had a sense of being like an older sister, but when I talk to her, she somewhat resembles Masaki-chan (laughs).

Fukumura: Is that so?

Ikuta: She's really been into puns lately.

Suzuki: Like, "Tobasu de tobasu" (laughs). ["I'll fly using the city bus"]

Sayashi: She's probably aiming to take the position of Maeda Yuuka-chan, who graduated from Smileage.

Fukumura: I am not! (laughs)

--What did the 9th gen think when they started taking applications for 10th gen right after you joined?

Sayashi: I thought, "The attention on us being the newest members is over?" (laughs)

Fukumura: I thought, "Did 9th gen not meet expectations?" But then I heard that that wasn't it. But frankly, I had the feeling of not wanting to lose. The feeling of wanting to work hard at dance practice swelled up even more.

--Sato-san, even while being teased, and the other 10th gen members are still inexperienced in singing and dancing, so they're working hard, right?

Sato: I also watch the videos and practice once I get home, but then I also forget it the next morning. That's why lately, instead of practicing until a particular time, I practice until I can dance it perfectly. My 10th gen companions also taught me, so the moment I danced "Pyoko Pyoko Ultra," I realized, "Dancing is interesting!"

--What about your chick costumes?

Suzuki: It's super cute, so I was super happy~.

Ikuta: She's someone who tends to do things like this (laughs). I also love to cosplay nurses, maids, and such, so it was fun to take photos and shoot the MV with this costume.

Sato: There are also eyes and a mouth on the costume, so it's cute. It gets really hot very quickly when we dance, so I sweat a lot.

--Did you feel like you were able to sing well during the recording?

Kudo: First, I listened to the demo quite a bit, but there were parts where the rhythm and notes that I had memorized were wrong, so I had some trouble at first.

Suzuki: It's a cute song, and my voice is deep so it ends up becoming strong. That was the greatest test for me. I confronted the recording, thinking, "I can sing in a cute way!" forgetting about this person called Suzuki Kanon and thinking of the feelings of the girl in the lyrics.

--Weren't there any words in the lyrics that Sato-san couldn't understand? (laughs)

Iikubo: "Omoi koshi" right? [heavy hips]

Sato: That's only because when I first listened to it, it sounded like, "omoi kushi" [heavy skewer]. "Omoi koshi wo ageru" [to raise up heavy hips] means to do a back hip circle, right?

Ishida: There's a scene in the MV where I do an air back hip circle, so it seems she ended up thinking that (laughs).

-------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, in Sato's head: "Omoi kushi wo ageru" [which sounds like "to deep-fry heavy skewers"] + chicken!Ishida doing an air back hip circle [as in, pretending to rotate her body along a horizontal bar] = to deep-fry heavy chicken skewers. XD

**Also, for those who don't know: The Japanese writing system uses a combination of kanji, hiragana, and katakana.  Hiragana and katakana are syllabaries (basically, they represent sound), so all Japanese words can be spelled out in hiragana or katakana, even when they are normally written using kanji.

Also, Suzuki <3

Thanks for the translation!!
