99 Days and What is D.S.L.

Posted by 槇土 (Makito), 11 October 2011 · 212 views

Dance! Sing! Live! founded in 1987.

D.S.L. owned by who we all call Big B.

He's sorta our Charlie and we're his angels. It seems weird...but you'll meet a lot people like this in the real world...people who you meet but can never nor probably never meet.

Every year, in Early February, Big B. sends out his talent scouts to look for musician, dancers and singers. Upon being invited to the audition, you're told that D.S.L. is a PRIVATE Performance Academy. Thus the public is never allowed in. If you pass the audition of course you're in if you don't then you...well you're just not in then...simple right lol.

Every year we hold a series of shows throughout the months of August - December. Showcasing our Musicians, Dancers, and Singers each having 45mins. of stage time. Around Late Oct. we change set lists, meaning that for every Show Season each cat. as two set lists. The earlier set-lists focus more on the younger-less experienced members while the second set list showcases the more advanced members. An example of this is, I'm in 2 numbers for the current set-list and in the next set-list I'm in 8.

We don't perform for the public...we perform for companies like Disney, Famous people looking for back up dancers etc. etc.. However we do hold four open house performances (2 for the first Set-list and 2 for the 2nd). What happens is, we show ourselves to these different agencies looking for people and if they like what they see, the call out managers and set up a audition and a private meeting with whoever. Of course is it up the performer to accept or decline. And if they are hired by the company then they leave, unable to be comeback.

HOWEVER, there are some instance where some performers have declined all offers and stay with D.S.L. for as long as they can. There are two systems in D.S.L. the S.G. (School Grade) system and then T.I.T. system.

The school system says that the member can stay in D.S.L. for as long as they want up until the 12th grade. They are applicable to join D.S.L. up until the end of their 2nd to last year of High School (Junior Year) After they have reached the 12th grade they have a choice to graduate from D.S.L. or graduate into the T.I.T. system. T.I.T. stands for Teachers In Training.

The T.I.T. simply put is a Teachers Aid class the helps Performance develop skills to help mentor others by basically shadowing one of our teachers at D.S.L. HOWEVER, the T.I.T. systems state the performer can stay in the program for only 3 years maximum. After which they must graduate from the D.S.L. program.

Graduations are the treated the same, whether you're graduating as a musician, dancer or singer from either the S.G. system or the T.I.T. system. You get the same privelages. A lot of the times, the number of people graduating are around 5-9 people. The smallest amount we had was 0...when all 3 senior students had left D.S.L.. And this concert is the 5th time the it can be open to the public are our quickest to sell out. The quickest being being sold out in a week. That's 500 tickets. Each ticket $50 (really expensive) so multiply and he makes bank, but most of it is used to buy things and pay for the companies to come see us.

Big B. owns EVERYTHING at his studio/house. The stage and the studio are all part of his own house, hidden by the public...EVERYTHING location wise must be kept secret and is in our contracts. But that's never been a problem so that's a rule that is never really stressed.

I think I covered everything...any other questions feel free to ask ^_^
