Morning Musume.'14 - Personal Member Ranking

morning musume ranking
My last ranking was in February, so it's time for a new one. And yeah, a bit has changed.

10. Ikuta Erina (-)

Well, I have a feeling that this one won't change soon. Don't get me wrong, I don't actually dislike Erina. It's just so much about her that I can't get into. Her voice is too high pitched and nasal for me - even her speaking voice. Her character is quite annoying; I know it's supposed to be like that, but I can't get into that. But who knows, back in the day I disliked Sayumi because of that too and look where she's now. I still think she looks awkward now and then, but she's gotten prettier. Yeah. But for now she can't get past the other girls.

9. Sato Masaki (-)

Maybe I'm just disappointed. Before Reina's graduation I thought Masaki was the most promising singer in the group after Sakura. I thought she'd finally calm down once her "Tanasa-tan" graduates. I hoped she'd grow out of her baby-voice. Nothing of this happened. In fact, her singing got a lot worse and her voice doesn't save that. She's acting really spoiled and I turned from thinking that it's cute to thinking that it's annoying and also not good for the group, especially when she might make careless mistakes (like that one time when she wanted to high-five Chisato). And then she doesn't seem to get what she did wrong. She's not a kid, she's 15. But she acts like a 6-year-old.
I guess I'm too harsh with her, too. Puberty can be really bad for some girls, both in emotion and singing (Riho anyone?). Maybe next year, she'll get to where I wanted her to see. And I do see that she's very ambitious, that she isn't pleased with herself (at least musically).

8. Ishida Ayumi (-)

Ayumi is pretty, an awesome dancer, has quite an interesting character and actually gets better at singing (though not much). Why can't I like her? I feel like she's the next Kamei Eri for me. Eri was awesome, but she was never high on my list. Her character just is so... unappealing to me. I mean I do see what can be loved at her - her ambition, her cool character. But no. I don't get the Daishi-Feeling. I don't even get it myself.

7. Fukumura Mizuki (-2)

Oops. What happened? The princess fell! Why?
I feel like I forgot about her. She doesn't improve, she doesn't stick out. Well, she does have a pretty face, but its emotionlessness is so plain. Her singing doesn't improve. Her dancing doesn't improve. She doesn't improve in her role for the group - the sexiness, at least not in magazine and photoshoots. Everything looks so awkward. And her character doesn't improve either, I feel like she has gotten even more boring. I am really disappointed.

6. Kudo Haruka (-1)

Her falling one place doesn't have anything to do with her, but with the person that passed her. Haruka is solid, I still think she's awesome. Her Lilium solo sounded great in recordings, and I feel like she matured a lot. I can't say much more about her.

5. Sayashi Riho (+2)

Oops again. How did this happen?
Probably because RIho has found herself. She works the camera in both MVs and photoshoots, when singing in a lower range (and not having to hold a tune) she's very solid, her dancing is sharp as always. She also grew into her character. I still think she's a very calculating girl and not as easy as others, but I came to like her a lot. I have no problem anymore with her being the ace and face.

4. Oda Sakura (-)

Sakura makes me happy. Especially her singing. While the rest in MM is pretty much average, her voice is like the sun after a heavy rainfall. But also everything else: Her face and looks overall, her character. She's just fun to watch.

3. Michishige Sayumi (-)

Now this is Sayumi's last year. It's weird. But after the first shock, I can't feel bad about it. I like that she's still focused on the group. You still see how she interacts with the girls, acts like both a big sister and a friend. With Gaki for example I felt that she wasn't as interested in the group once she announced her graduation, which made me sad. But Sayumi is there in the group. As a part of it. Of course she sticks out to a degree, but it's not that she's annoying.
At the same time, she works on own projects. Michishige Camera? Great. Personal Sayumi Photobook soon? Awesome. Hosting the Video Music Awards Japan? Untouchable. I won't worry about her once she graduates. She's an intelligent woman who knows what to do. If she wants to stay in showbiz she will. If she doesn't, she won't. Go your way, Sayumi.

2. Iikubo Haruna (-)

Haruna steps up her game. I feel that she, like Sayu, has good idol qualities. She might not be a dancer or a singer, but her character draws me in. She can be the model. the otaku, the comedian (and wow I think she's the funniest girl in the group atm), the big sister. I really hope for a double-leadership because I feel that Haruna can help Mizuki a lot.

1. Suzuki Kanon (-)

Zukki is really growing into her looks. I guess it's still hard being the chubby one around and that she might have it easier with less weight, but she uses this for her own good in playing the chubby character. And finally she gets her TV shows! I'm really looking forward to what will happen at that Arashi show. Also, I really want that Kagome App. A Kanon cannon? How awesome is this?!
