Is this what meat and potatoes looks like?

If you put them in a pressure cooker they sort of come out looking like that because they don't have as much contact with the heat.
Truthfully, though, if she had cooked them longer and made them softer the flavor would be deeper and sweeter.

That is some giant meat and potatoes

That's an awful lot of juice

Isn't Tohouku cuisine heavy on the soup as a garnish? Is that what she was going for?

5: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:32:24.13 0
It's potato soup

Meat soup?

10: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:32:59.11 0
That much soup is fine but it looks really undercooked
Might it have been better to cook it a little while longer?

13: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:33:32.66 0
That looks like the soup my mom makes every once in a while

Pot-au-feu(´・ω・`)

17: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:34:09.04 0
It's kind of Western-looking

18: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:34:19.17 0

It's the broth pulled from pork miso

20: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:34:31.41 0
Oh, I get it

If it weren't for the shredded onions it would be a perfect pot-au-feu

24: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:35:14.81 0
It looks like a tasty pork miso

27: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:35:45.32 0
If she gave it to her cousin, though, she probably just mumbled, "looks good," without even trying it

Is this what meat and potatoes looks like in Saitama?

With plenty of moisture and minimal salt, the bland flavor seems very healthy!

Originally meat and potatoes was a Japanese-style take on beef stew, so...

73: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:45:03.99 O
Don't they have something called a potato boil in Touhoku?
Is this it?

Regardless

If she sold this at concert venue with a photo of herself, you'd all gobble it up.
I'd eat it.

84: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:49:17.56 O
I tried posting a critical comment to her blog about it. It'll probably just get rejected.

92: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 22:51:42.55 T
I think if she left it to stew overnight it would smell delicious

It doesn't take much time and for some reason they're under the impression that men really like meat and potatoes

141: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:04:27.80 0
I've seen this sort of dish before
And I think I've eaten it
I can't remember the name of that bar...

177: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:14:24.23 0
When I was in high school, my first girlfriend made me yakisoba and it was the most god-awful yakisoba I had ever eaten. I told her I wanted to know how on earth she had made it so disgusting so I wanted to watch her make it again.
And as soon as I said that she burst into tears and threw all of it away while crying and made me leave.

I was the worst. I really want to apologize to her.

178: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:14:30.47 T
It's way better to make meat and potatoes without any water

http://cookpad.com/recipe/5629

Whenever I make it every now and then I always use this recipe
Meat and potatoes splashing around in water is really gross

184: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:15:34.27 O
Nah, it's her first time making it, it's to be expected. There really is a lot of broth. I expect she'll improve next time. Don't watch too many dramas. School and work are what matter. You'll gain weight if you stay up too late. But I still like a roly-poly Take-chan. I wrote such nice things but the mods killed my comment.

195: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:19:07.01 O
If she had seasoned it before boiling then that amount of water would have made for a gentle flavor
But if this is the finished product then there's no possible way for it to have any flavor and she'll end up overseasoning it to compensate

198: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:20:17.66 0
Can any of you actually make meat and potatoes?

205: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:22:19.18 O
Sayu puts carrots and potatoes in her rice cooker to make with rice

When it comes to meat and potatoes,
there are those who like a light flavor so they can douse it in tare sauce
and there are those who won't accept it if it isn't all crumbly and mushed together
so there are a lot of people who will disagree on how it should be prepared
We could go on forever in this thread about whether or not you should add onions

I think it's mostly just up to whatever your family does but whatever I'm sleepy I'm going to bed

211: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:26:13.35 0
It's the same prep as sukiyaki so it should be easy

If you look up pictures of it,
Take-chan's is completely different, way less soup

It would be better to call this thread "It's the meat and potatoes Oden made, but..."

227: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:35:04.20 0
I bet she made this the same way as we made the pork soup on the Satoyama tour

228: 名無し募集中。。。 2013/04/09(火) 23:36:36.56 O
She probably doesn't know how to use the lid properly
Using a lid helps the juice simmer, otherwise the flavor gets really weak
Well, if it's her first time it's probably better to focus on not burning anything

Because Oden made it
Plenty of soup is definitely necessary for this dish

The thing is that it's better that a girl like her tried to make it rather than what the actual outcome was
Take-chan's happiness is rising, I bet, lol

I'm pretty sure she didn't cook the potatos properly XD. I can imagine eating it saying how yummy it is while munching on the hard potato.

I'm not entirely sure how you're supposed to eat chunks of potato that big in something that soupy. I'm also not entirely convinced that meat was cooked long enough.

Oh well, good job, Take-chan.

Meat looks, um, raw to me. And aren't they full potatoes, just peeled.
