Long, long time...

So I was going to do a survey/questionnaire for this post but it seems all the other posters had the same idea. So instead of an ice breaker, I'll just jump right in to my usual randomness.

Over the past some time, I've had this interest in tasting food and drinks. It didn't seem so much a "sophisticated" interest to have if it were just food, unless I knew how to cook, but wine...wine can be rich in history and bears a rather mysterious "wow" factor if you can talk about it using its own wine-language. Through some discussions at work (with residents) and then finally setting out to start this lifelong journey, I think I should start my blog again. It'll give me a chance to jot down my thoughts on these adventures and through talking(typing) to myself, I can further reinforce/challenge my thoughts...or at the least, come back when I have more experience and read about how much I liked something that was of such poor quality- pahaha, I'm so high class now, poor little past me.

My first experiment:

Laird's Applejack.
Not good. I was recommended the RARE 12 year old brandy but unfortunately it was too hard to find. This is very harsh and I was warned before hand but what the heck do I know?? I mean, I think this can be closely be compared to some Jack Daniel's. I got the bottle and had some on the first day- didn't touch it again. Maybe I should give it another try. I didn't even taste the "apple" part of the Applejack!

Second on the list:

Poire Willam.
Out of all the recommendations that I have received, this was on the top of my list to test out. I am not disappointed. I was told that this is a "sipping" experience as opposed to my college-drinking experience. To transition from drinking as much as you can to get drunk to sipping is a huge step. My sips were not small enough for me to fully enjoy this experience. Luckily, I had to stop drinking because I had to drive soon. So after just my first sip, albeit a "large sip" in comparison to what I should have been taking, I stopped. I am currently enjoying this delightful taste as I type. If you have ever had the candy "Hi-Chew," I can easily describe the experience. The aroma and the taste of the fruit, in this case, pear is perfect. It has that taste of a perfect pear filling your mouth with flavor. The alcohol taste is mild at worst- and that means a lot coming from me.
I bought the smallest bottle available because I am only on the quest to explore. However, what I really want to try next is

the Poire Willam liqueur. The price is quite a bit steeper than what I got, but it may be worth it. I asked the employee how would one get the pear out and his response was "You don't. You just refill it with some more from that bottle you looked at earlie- Y'know, most people ask 'How did they get that pear IN there?' and here you are asking me how you would get it out."

To those who are not yet at the legal age to drink. Don't do it!

On a non-alcoholic note, I bought this on impulse.

Ginger ale...fresh ginger ginger ale...
Not good. Tastes like water with a lot of ginger and sugar.

Other things that I am doing besides drinking (haha):
Learning how to speak Japanese.
Learning how to be more well-spoken. (Is that right?) I actually bought a book that is supposed to help improve my vocabulary so that it can sound more...uhhh...better lol. Clearly, it's working.

Omg, you're so cute!

did you try inhaling a bit through your mouth after taking a small sip? applejack to me is just apple flavored whiskey, so i tend to avoid, but you can sorta pick up on the apple if you inhale a bit after sip some.
