Ratios

So, all of you have certainly noticed our new "penalty" system for low ratios. Any feelings on this? It's something we have avoinded implementing for so long, but clearly, something had to be done. The number of sub-0.4 ratio leechers was steadily increasing, making all torrents run slower than they should. Also, torrents were dying earlier than perhaps they might have.

If you are in the "penalty zone", here's a tip: download Hello!Morning this sunday. You'll get a great chance to boost that ratio on popular files such as that. You can probably get above 0.6 with just that alone, if you seed long enough.

One problem we didn't account for is that our chinese-speaking users who are getting a delay just don't understand why. Are there any chinese-speakers out there that are willing to translate our Rules & Guidelines into Chinese for us? We'd appreciate it...

Well I definitely knew something had to be done about the low ratio's and this penalty seems reasonable. I mean if you are here to leech on a private server there have to be penalties if you do not have a certain ratio... So the delay is the best thing to do as it will show them you are getting thigns for free, the least you can do is help seed it afterward. The waiting period gives them a chance to rethink things through, although I know for sure it will not motivate everyone but most people.

As for the Chinese Thing.. Ehh I know some Mandarin but not enough to do a translation.. BUT maybe... I could. . .

Let's see:

Taken off Google Translator:

Slight warning, there are two spelling mistakes that made it so they didn't translate and you can clearly see them at the bottom of that link and here they are:
availible -> available
immidiate -> immediate
I wasn't really mind about leechers with low ratio,
But as I downloaded one of the file today, my speed went up to 500-700kpbs,
and that never happened to me before *usually my speed is fastest at 200kpbs with lots of seeders*
I didn't know the "penalty" system really helps the torrents to go faster ^^
It's great!!!

I just have one question/suggestion about the Tracker ...
I wonder if there is a way that we could set the default to 'Show All' instead of just 'H!PNEW' when we go to the Tracker?

About the translation for Rules & Guidelines, maybe you could make an Announcement or something like that to ask for English-Chinese speakers to help. I'm sure there are people willing to help
My Chinese isn't good enough to know that much terms in these Rules&Guidelines :lol:
@Hurtwou: Hahha the 'penalty' has nothing to do with max speeds, that is strictly just your own connection + whoever the Seeders/Leechers may be(As you are downloading from their connection).

As for the Question -> Yeah someone brought it up in the following thread, Forum Design + Updates.

Lastly I already did a quick translation of the Rules and Guidelines and had my Dad proofread it to see if Google did a good job, and he said it is usable.

So yeah :lol:
Well, thanks SC, but we want to avoid machine translators. Their translations are probably "useable", but we're looking for something a bit "warmer" I guess. Human translation will always make more sense.

Thanks again for the effort, though.

@Kuno: That is understandable, I just used that for a quick guide sort of a 'for now' thing until someone else can do a full translation of the Rules and Guidelines.
Thanks SC for the link ^^
