Happy 16th Birthday, RieRie!!!

My favorite Ice Cream Musume member.

I really hope we see more from them this year, as they are a group bursting with personality, energy and possibility.

I also hope her leg healed. lol I assume so since that was last summer, but what a bummer that performance was.

2009: "I'll Never Forget You"....

Posted by joshmos, Jan 9 2010, 07:57 PM

Hello! everybody. As you can see from my previous entry, wishing Happy Birthday to an as yet unannounced departing Koha, it's been a while since i did this. Anyway a lot happened to me in 2009. A LOT. Good stuff. No, GREAT stuff! I will write more about the year later. Let me just say this briefly tho:

I met and got autographs from 9nin Morning Musume AND saw them perform. Oh and Ai-chan waved at me! Yes just me. I have witnesses.

I got to ask Tsunku a question about Koha and Ayaya. He thanked me for coming from NYC to LA and took my question seriously.

I met amazing friends from all over the world! Paul, Joel, Mage, CK, and many more...

I saw AKB48 in my own backyard!

I am all over the documentary concert footage of AKB48 and I make 3 appearances in the Morning Musume doc too!

As great as those events were, and how I didn't think they would ever be topped, one month after AKB48 came to NYC, completely out of the blue, I met AI KAGO in a bar on the lower east side of Manhattan!!! I will tell that story in more detail soon.

But meeting the girls in LA gave me a new found appreciation for one girl in particular. I didn't expect it. She was soooooo super cute and really nice to me in person, attempting English and making a little joke just to me. Sigh. I am an AIKA fan now! Big time....

So this is an early Happy Birthday to my girl from Momusu...

HAPPY 17th AIKA!!!

Happy! Happy! Birthday, Koha!

HAPPY!HAPPY! BIRTHDAY, KOHA!!!

Ok, well there goes my promise not to make my blog the H!P Birthday of the week Blog. Sigh. But in between Ayaya's and Koha's there was a little Anime Expo in LA. Maybe you heard about it. Don't worry. Nothing much happened.

So, Koha is 17. That's weird. But then so is she, and that's why I love her. She's manic, unpredictable, goofy and marches to her own beat. I can dig that. Go, Koha, Go, Koha, Go!

Everyone I meet and try and turn on to H!P, all have the same reaction. They like this Koha chick. Even the bizarre stuff. Kinda BECAUSE of the bizzare stuff, the weirder she is or the songs are, the better. And I agree.

She stared at me like a deer in the headlights at the autograph session, which almost made me laugh out loud. I just smiled and gave her a quick point in her direction and said "you're awesome," knowing fully well she didn't understand what I said and proceeded on to JunJun. Perfect Koha moment.

A new friend I met over there, Matt, who goes by the name Insane Lampshade, had a little different moment with Koha. Amazing stuff, as he came all the way from the UK and his name really should be Insane Koha-fan, dressed as he was head to toe in red, with the Koha shirt, red Koha wristband, the works...read his account of actually meeting her for breakfast. Here:

I think she may prove to be the miracle Tsunku saw in her way back when. She's growing into a beautiful young woman and a top performer with personality and charisma to spare. Happy 17th, Koha!

Happy 23rd, Ayaya!!!

I'm trying not to turn my Blog into the H!P Birthday of the week, but I simply CANNOT overlook the girl that started it all for me (see my early Blog entries) Aya "Ayaya" Matsuura.

She is, in my humble opinion, the most talented performer in the H!P stable. Now that she is no longer a memeber of H!P I hope she is able to expand her fanbase even more and eventually come West as she deserves all the fame and success her amazing talent can bring.

Everyone deserves to know who she is and to see her perform!

Oh...and just for fun, Happy 4th of July to everyone!!!

Gimme that Ol' Skool Geek-dom!

Posted by joshmos, Jun 11 2009, 08:17 AM

Can't wait to see you all at the Anime Expo in LA! I'll be there the day before Day 0. I'm there to line up early... for whatever I need to line up early for! lol I'm a big ol' geek from wayback, but it's been a while since I geeked out. This H!P thing is kind of new to me (1 1/2 years) But not the geek-dom part.

I got in line at 8am for the first showing of "The Empire Strikes Back" in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where I grew up in 1980. I had my Dad drop me off on his way to work (I had just turned 14) dressed in a head to toe Darth Vader costume (with full two-piece helmet). I met my two other geek friends there and there were already two women in line who had driven up from Indiana ( I guess it wasn't playing down there?). They were members of the Harrison Ford FanClub and had self made fanzines and lawnchairs! This was the days before the internet and cell phones, people! Being a geek was soooooo NOT cool then and we had a great time.

Then in recent years, like, 1984-2004ish I was a MAJOR Prince fanatic. I have seen him 22 times, mainly just here in NYC. Being in long lines for Prince concerts and those famous aftershow jams is just the funk version of wota's! There are "hooo-hooo" disco calls and his own Prince chants ("freaks on this side!") at his concerts too!

So now I am a full fledged H!P fan. It all comes full circle. In fact, I think if you cross a Star Wars geek with a Prince fanatic you get a rabid Tsunku-music lovin', garish-costume cravin', glow-stick wavin' WOTA!!!

MORNING MUSUME ON THE TONIGHT SHOW w/ CONAN O'BRIEN!!!

Posted by joshmos, May 24 2009, 10:09 AM

Just think of it....

There is a message board over at the website for Conan O'Brien's new Tonight Show, which begins June 1st, concerning what musical acts you would like to see on the show.

With Morning Musume making their very first appearance on these shores, and in LA no less, it would be a shame if they don't get maximum exposure.

Conan O'Brien seems like a natural fit, with his penchant for the edgy, goofy side of things, coupled with the fact that his show is new and this could be a part of making his own stamp on The Tonight Show in a small way.

How much fun would it be to see Conan interview Ai-chan after a performance of 3,2,1, Breakin' Out (with Eri and Sayu in the background giggling, Koha mugging to the audience, Aika mugging to the camera, JunJun and LinLin being professional, Reina spasmically winking and flashing the peace sign and Risa just looking hawt?!?)!

Write and request Momusu now!!! Just takes a few seconds to register...this must happen.

Mano vs. Maeda

Posted by joshmos, May 5 2009, 09:59 PM

I gotta say, don't get the Erina Mano thing. At all. Why is she on the Elder Club shows? Why is she appearing opening a Momusu concert? Why is she period? I understand she is of the utmost importance to Up Front and Tsunku, but man, I think they're putting the wrong person out there! She just doesn't have the personality to be a successful solo artist. Think of Aya Matsuura, Miki Fujimoto or Yuko...I mean, really. The abscence of star quality is just stunning, even with the piano playing aspect.

Especially when you have someone in the fold as cute and talented as the young Yuuka Maeda! Put all your energy into making her a solo artist and now you have something exciting. With room to grow. At 14 she's the same age as Aya when she started and already has a few years experience. She showed great stage presence in last years High-King performance and just shines with potential Idol stardom. She also seems to have a certain meloncholy or sadness to her even while she's being cute that gives her added depth and hints at a maturity yet to be revealed. Plus she looks like Airi and Momo had a baby!

I'm sure Tsunku has big plans for her, but she's being wasted in these Egg Shuffle groups like Shugo Chara or whatever. Give her a solo single, fun and upbeat, but complex, like an updated version of young Ayaya and it would sell like pancakes, and not the Koha kind.

Putting your all into making Erina Mano a star just seems a waste of time to me. There is a Youtube video of her singing live that is just embarassingly bad.

Have Yuuka-chan go solo! Or join Momusu, or both!...she's the future of H!P! Go, Tsunku, Do It! Now!

Crazy Koha: Great?, Momusu Musings and more...

Posted by joshmos, Mar 4 2009, 11:02 AM

First off...MOMUSU IN L.A.!!! I'm so there and I can't friggin' wait! I have a very good friend in L.A. that I miss very much being way out here in New York City. We are both terrible at staying in touch, but recently both made the effort. Then the announcement came. I'm going to stay with him in L.A. and he is going to the concert. I told him. He is. he has no choice. He knows nothing of Morning Musume.

So...I have been schooling him, bit by bit so he's ready come July. I sent him a 3-CD mix of the hits in chronological order + a disc of fave album tracks and coupling songs. I also send him a primer on one member at a time beginning with Ai-chan. Then came Risa. Yesterday I did Winky, er, I mean Reina. I'll unload Sayu next so we can get to the rest. Yeah, not a big fan. But someone I am becoming a bigger fan of is...

Crazy, cracked-out Koha! With her new Kirarin album and solo single she has a bit of an ouvre to look back on now and her continued maturation in Momusu has been duly noted as well...Damn, did you see the Dance shot version of "Nachau Kamo"??? Can't take your eyes off her! Is she the best dancer in Momusu right now? Could be. She's feirce in that. And she was great in Resonant Blue too...so different than her Kirarin Happy! Happy! character that suits her so well, she really is growing and at almost 16 1/2 showing more and more maturity as a performer. I recently made a Best of Koha Cd for a friend who I introduced to H!P the other week and he keeps asking about that crazy girl. It's really pretty good, and I can't stop listening to it! Watch that Dance Shot video of Kamo again and tell me she ain't kickin'!

Also sad to hear Kanna won't be able to be in the new C-ute video or tour but I hope she feels better and rests her C-ute little bunions. Guess she's having surgery, damn that's gotta hurt. Between her and Ayaya, what's the deal with the bad foot luck, huh?

Speaking of C-ute, tho, their new release "Akogare My Star" is awesome! I think "One's Life" is one of my favourite songs in H!P ever, and Buono!'s new one rocks as well. "Goal" is an amazing song and both of those are going on my all-time H!P playlists now...do you guys make those too? I do different playlists all the time and try and think of new themes and ideas for them constantly. So besides the fallen Kanna, Aya's broken toe and the graduation of Elder Club, 2009, music wise, has been pretty frikkin' great so far. See you all in L.A.!
